Dhana means wealth in Sanskrit. Dhana Yogas are specific planetary combinations involving the wealth houses (2nd, 5th, 9th, and 11th) and their lords. When the lords of these houses form connections with each other or with the Lagna lord, wealth combinations are created.
Four houses are primarily associated with wealth: the 2nd house (accumulated wealth, savings, family money), the 5th house (investments, speculation, past-life merit), the 9th house (fortune, divine grace, luck), and the 11th house (income, gains, the fulfillment of desires). The Lagna (1st house) is also important as the foundation of the entire chart.
The most reliable wealth combinations include: the lord of the 2nd and 11th in conjunction or mutual aspect; the Lagna lord conjunct or aspecting the 2nd lord; Jupiter (natural karaka for wealth) in the 2nd, 5th, 9th, or 11th house and connected to their lords; Venus (natural karaka for prosperity) similarly placed; and multiple wealth house lords gathered in a single house (Dhan Sthana).
Certain planets are natural significators (karakas) of wealth regardless of house lordship: Jupiter is the primary karaka for wealth and prosperity. Venus represents luxury, abundance, and fine things. Mercury governs commercial wealth through business and trade. Moon represents liquid assets and the flow of money. A strong, well-placed Jupiter is generally the most reliable indicator of overall prosperity in a chart.
Dhana Yogas indicate potential — they activate most powerfully during the Mahadasha or Antardasha of the planets forming the yoga. The 11th house Dasha is particularly associated with significant financial gains. Jupiter and Venus Dashas often correlate with periods of material expansion when those planets are also associated with wealth houses.
